Father’s Day

Make Every Day Father’s Day

This post is dedicated to all the wonderful Fathers and Fatherly figures in our lives. I don’t wait for Father’s Day once a year to appreciate my Papa. For me, every day is Father’s Day (and Mother’s Day!)

I hope that after reading this post, you will be inspired to express your love and appreciation for your parents today, tomorrow and every day. Remember that one day they may be gone forever and then you will never be able to tell them how much they meant to you. So do it now, before it is too late. It will bring them a lot of joy and it will make you happy too. You do not need to do anything extravagant; all it takes is a simple act of love straight from the heart. Here are some simple ideas:

1. Give Your Time

The most precious gift you can give your father is your time. No matter how busy you are with your own life, be sure to take some time out for your dad. Make him a priority when you are creating your schedules. You can have dinner together, watch a movie, go for a walk or do anything that he likes. Remember that he spent a lot of time caring for you and played a huge role in making you what you are today.

2. Value His Advice

Advice

Another way you can make Dad feel special is by asking for his advice. Regardless of how far you have come in your education or career, remember that your father has experience and wisdom that you will not get from any books, podcasts or videos. Even if you are not able to implement his advice right away, respect him by listening and understanding what he says. Remember that he always wants the best for you and his words are invaluable.

3. Stay Connected

Sometimes we get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to connect and communicate with our parents, making them feel like they have been left behind. As our parents age, they may develop health conditions which they may need assistance with. If you do not stay connected, you will not know what they are going through until it is too late. Make sure you are aware of their well-being so that you can assist them as they age. If you live close to your father, visit him regularly and make the visits meaningful. If you live far away, connect with him regularly over phone or video call. Remember that your father may not complain or tell you about his issues because he understands that you already have a busy life of your own. It is up to you to keep the lines of communication open.

4. Give Care

Think about all the love, care, provision, sacrifice and support your father has given you since you were born. In my opinion, even if I were to serve my Papa all my life, I would not come close to how much he has done for me. This is why I grab every opportunity to serve and care for him, like feeding him his favorite foods, taking him out for a walk, or something as simple as giving him a hug and kissing his hand. Do not wait to care for your dad only when he asks for help, or when he gets sick. You can give care even when he is able and independent. For example, you can help him with household chores without being asked, so he can relax. This will show him that you care about him and are grateful for everything that he does.

5. Show Compassion

After reading the 4 ideas above, you can realize that you do not need to do anything extravagant to make your dad happy. Something as simple as spending time with him, asking for his advice, talking to him frequently and caring for him will mean more to him than an expensive gift. Any little gesture, when done with compassion and love, goes a long way in keeping your father happy. Even if you have clashing personalities and conflicting opinions, remember that no one is perfect. Constructive arguments are healthy, but make sure you do it in a calm and respectful manner. If you feel that the argument is getting heated and you are not able to stay calm, it is better to be quiet, end the conversation, or excuse yourself and leave the room. Remember to always part with kindness and respect, because you do not know if that will be your last conversation with your dad.

You are your father’s most precious gift and source of happiness. He will feel a sense of joy and fulfillment that he raised you to be a caring, compassionate and respectful child. Always remember your dad and what he has done for you to be the person you are today. Express your love and gratitude to him regularly and seize every opportunity to do something for him. Remember that he will not be around forever. Do not wait for Father’s Day once a year to make him feel special – Make Every Day Father’s Day!
